Against the Broncos' rushing attack, the Jets used former CFL star Garrett McIntyre as the starting outside linebacker opposite Calvin Pace. Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said this week that McIntyre will continue to start in the team's base defense, although he pointed out they may not use it much against the Bills' spread offense.

McIntyre impressed the staff in camp and the preseason with his pass-rushing skills, but he mainly had been used on special teams. He recorded three tackles in the loss to Denver.

The way we hear it, McIntyre is the stoutest the team has to offer against the run from that position, which is normally held by Bryan Thomas, who is on injured reserve. Aaron Maybin is too small and more of a pass-rush specialist. Meanwhile, Jamaal Westerman is now the third guy in the rotation, according to Pettine. McIntyre has a big and strong frame to help the Jets' run defense on the edge.
