An MRI has revealed that Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has a high ankle sprain, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. His status for Sunday's game at the Falcons is unknown.
Peterson injured the ankle late in the first quarter Sunday against the Raiders, when his foot was caught under a defender trying to tackle him.
Frazier said that Peterson will try to practice a bit on Friday but that will be determined based on his progress through the week.
Peterson is having another outstanding season, with 872 yards rushing and 12 total touchdowns.
The Way We See It
Losing Peterson is the last thing QB Christian Ponder and the struggling Vikings offense needed. Peterson was the only consistent performer on the offense and his presence in the backfield helped to take pressure off of Ponder and the passing game.
If Peterson is forced to miss time, Toby Gerhart and WR Percy Harvin will take up the slack at tailback.
