When it comes to feel-good stories in the NFL this season, few can compare to Niners seventh-round rookie Bruce Miller. A defensive end at Central Florida, Miller has made a very successful conversion to the Niners' starting FB job, replacing veteran Moran Norris. "He's the starter now (at fullback). Norris has been healthy enough to get back into the lineup for weeks, but Miller has been remarkable," said one daily team observer. "He's a superb athlete, really smart, with great instincts. He's not a bulldozer as a blocker, but he works all the angles, all the leverages. And he can catch the ball out of the backfield, too." A great deal of the credit for Miller's emergence goes to RB coach Tom Rathman, who has worked wonders with Miller despite having no OTAs this offseason. Said Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh: "Tom Rathman's got Bruce playing outstanding football, and Bruce is a great learner."
