The Bears announced Friday that they have placed rookie OT Gabe Carimi on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Carimi, the team's first-round pick, started the first two games of the season before suffering a disolcated right knee in Week Two. The team hoped he could return following its bye week, but he practiced only once the week before the Bears-Eagles game.

Lovie Smith said last Friday that Carimi had a "minor scope" on his knee. Lance Louis has started for Carimi and played well.

The Bears elevated OT Levi Horn to the active roster from the practice squad. He entered the NFL in 2010 as an undrafted free agent out of Montana.

The way we see it

While Louis has been impressive filling in for Carimi, this is a blow to the Bears' O-line considering its lack of depth. OG Chris Williams went on I.R. earlier in the week, which thrusts Edwin Williams into a starting role. Frank Omiyale struggled as a starter and is the team's top reserve at this point. The much-maligned group has improved greatly this season, but it cannot afford another injury.
