It didn't take long for DL Brandon Deaderick to get involved after the Patriots activated him from the physically-unable-to-perform list before their Week Nine game against the Giants. With Shaun Ellis out, Deaderick played in 49 snaps, per ESPN Boston, in the loss. With Ellis back in Week 10, Deaderick, a second-year player out of Alabama, played one more snap than the veteran, although Ellis did look better after returning from a rib injury.

The way we hear it, Deaderick's impact on the D-line also might be an indictment of the little contribution the Patriots have gotten from Ellis, a free-agent acquisition. In eight games, Ellis has seven tackles, one for a loss. In his two games, Deaderick has five tackles, one going for a loss.

The Patriots' staff likes Deaderick's versatility to play inside or on the end of the team's new "40" front.

"I thought Brandon did a good job — did a nice job in the running game, used his hands well, played with good technique and he got up the field and got close to the quarterback a couple times," Bill Belichick said about Deaderick's performance vs. the Giants.
