Colts likely will stick with QB Painter after bye

Colts QB Curtis Painter is far from the only reason the club is 0-10 and the front-runner in the Andrew Luck derby — he actually put his team in position to win a few games early in the season. That seems like a distant memory, however, as Painter's recent struggles have led to his benching in each of the past two losses. Although head coach Jim Caldwell has been noncommittal to naming a starter for the club's Week 12 contest against Carolina, we hear it is likely Painter again will get the nod. A source close to the situation indicated that Painter and Dan Orlovsky are essentially "the same guy" and the club is unlikely to fare better with Orlovsky under center. The source said while the chances are slim, he would not rule out the possibility of Dan LeFevour being promoted from the practice squad before season's end. Even if the Colts stick with Painter, we hear there are serious doubts about his ability to be a serviceable backup.
