Chiefs QB Matt Cassel had surgery on his injured hand Monday night, but coach Todd Haley is hopeful that he can return before the end of the season.

Haley said he is unsure of when Cassel could return, but a decision will depend on how well his recovery goes through the next week.

Cassel injured his throwing hand during Sunday's loss to the Broncos. Tyler Palko will start for Cassel this week when the Chiefs face the Patriots on Monday night.
