The Patriots activated rookie OL Marcus Cannon to the 53-man roster from the non-football injury list on Tuesday and released S Ross Ventrone.

Cannon, the team's fifth-round pick out of TCU, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and underwent chemotherapy. He said last month that he is in full remission.

Ventrone has bounced between the practice squad and active roster all season. He appeared in Sunday night's win over the Jets.

The Patriots also re-signed DB Malcolm Williams to the practice squad. Williams was the team's seventh-round pick in April's draft.

The way we see it

This is great news for Cannon, a cancer survivor, that he has worked his way to the point where he can play, as some thought he would spend his rookie season on injured reserve. Cannon played tackle in college and is expected to shift to guard in the pros and could end up being a very good value pick for the Pats.
