The Bears played seven rookies in their win over the Lions, but only one started. Third-round pick Chris Conte made his fourth consecutive start at free safety and recorded two tackles. He often served as the deep safety — the team's last line of defense — when the defense played man coverage.

Two of Conte's fellow rookies were involved in the defensive-line rotation. Second-round pick Stephen Paea saw time at nose tackle, and undrafted rookie Mario Addison, who was active for the first time since Week Six, took snaps at defensive end.

Undrafted rookie LB Dom DeCicco made his presence felt on special teams. He blocked Lions P Robert Malone and gave Devin Hester just enough room to avoid stepping out of bounds on Hester's 82-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Undrafted rookie S Anthony Walters has been placed on injured reserve with a pulled hamstring, according to the Chicago Tribune (the team has not yet announced the roster move), and the Bears are expected to re-sign undrafted rookie S-LB Winston Venable, who was dropped from the practice squad last week, to the active roster to replace Walters and help on special teams. Venable was active in five games for the Bears earlier this season.

Three rookies — QB Nathan Enderle, ORT Gabe Carimi and TE Andre Smith — were inactive Sunday. Carimi underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week and hasn't played since Week Two. There is no clear timetable for his return.
