The Redskins need to give John Beck — or Rex Grossman, if they go back to him — more help if they want the offense to run better after a miserable stretch. That means that rookies RB Roy Helu and WR Leonard Hankerson, who have graduated to the starting lineup because of injuries, must help out with big plays. Helu probably has the best chance to stand out after opening eyes with his 14-catch performance (a Redskins record) in the loss to the 49ers in Week Nine. He will be a regular part of the run game and appears to be a good fit as a one-cut runner in this zone scheme. Helu must keep improving with his blitz pickup, but he is shifty and quicker than many think. Hankerson is getting his first real crack, and he clearly passes the eye test. With his well-built frame and long arms, he has the physical characteristics to handle the position. But Hankerson must improve his get-off and concentration and focus on the little things.
