Packers Thursday injury analysis

Stop the presses. After missing the season up to now with a knee injury that cropped up just before the season opener against the Saints, DE Mike Neal's limited participation was the most noteworthy development in the Packers' first practice of the week in advance of their Monday-night game at Lambeau Field against the division-rival Vikings.

Two Packers were listed as "out" on the Thursday injury report — starting OLT Chad Clifton, who is expected to miss his fourth consecutive game with a hamstring injury, and OLB Frank Zombo, who injured his hamstring last Sunday against the Chargers after missing much of the season prior to that with shoulder and knee injuries.

OLB Clay Matthews (knee) did not participate in the Thursday practice, starting ORG Josh Sitton (knee) participated on a limited basis and starting FS Morgan Burnett (hand) fully participated in the practice.

A return to action by Neal could provide a big lift for the Packers' pass rush, especially with Zombo, who was expected to do the same thing, out of action again. The likely plan will be for Neal to be worked into the starting lineup at right end gradually.
