Bengals LB Keith Rivers will be allowed to practice with the team on a three-week roster exemption, once he's cleared for football activities following offseason wrist surgery.

Rivers had surgery on his right wrist in July and is currently on the Reserve/Non-Football injury list. This exemption will allow him to practice with the team without having him take a spot on the 53-man roster.

He could be added to the 53-man roster at any point during the three-week period, at which point the Bengals would have to make a corresponding roster move to create space on the active roster.

Rivers, a first-round pick out of USC in 2008, has 186 tackles and two interceptions in his career.

The way we see it

Whether Rivers can regain his starting role with the Bengals remains to be seen. His replacement, Thomas Howard, has played well as part of one of the AFC's top defenses.
