Here is a look at how the Patriots' first-year players performed in the team's Week Nine loss to the Giants.
ORT Nate Solder (first round, 17th overall) — With Sebastian Vollmer healthy, Solder played a role as an extra blocker. According to ESPN Boston, he was in on 23 offensive plays. The team used Solder as a blocker instead of Dan Gronkowski, which says a lot about how they feel about Solder, a converted tight end.
RB Stevan Ridley (3, 73) — Ridley had three carries for 10 yards and one catch for two yards. His participation increased a bit compared to the previous week, but he hasn't been able to repeat what he did against Oakland.
LB Jeff Tarpinian (undrafted) — Tarpinian assisted on a special-teams tackle. The linebackers have been marred by injuries, and Tarpinian may have to step up and play some snaps on defense next week.
Notes — RB Shane Vereen (2, 56) was active but did not play. ... QB Ryan Mallett (3, 74) was inactive. ... LS Danny Aiken (undrafted) was perfect on snaps.
