Last week, I said one should never bet against Bill Belichick coming off a bye. The Steelers proved that wrong.
This week, I believe in the mantra that you never bet against Belichick coming off a loss. Punch the Patriots in the mouth, and they will make adjustments. It's something Belichick and Tom Brady do very well.
The Patriots catch a break, as Eli Manning is without his top two offensive weapons — WR Hakeem Nicks and RB Ahmad Bradshaw. Manning will still pile up yards through the air against New England, but the Patriots likely have made adjustments in the secondary during the week to put together a better performance.
On offense, the Giants' pass rush could give Brady some problems, but the key in this game could be the run game. When the Patriots run the ball successfully, it generally means they will come out on top, as it makes the passing game even easier for Brady. Last week, the Patriots' running game was dismal, but the Giants have struggled against the run this season. If the Pats can establish a ground attack to complement Brady, they should come out on top.
The Giants have been an enigma this season. Inconsistent play is not going to beat New England, and the Patriots could get off to a hot start in this one. Like most Patriots games this season, I expect a shootout.
Prediction: Patriots 30, Giants 24
