Mike Shanahan was given a pass for last season, given that he inherited most of the roster. This season, that pass is starting to slip away. For the first time since taking the job as head coach, after a 9-14 start to his Redskins career, Shanahan is facing public criticism for his performance and hearing talk of being on the hot seat. He must reverse what has been the team's disturbing trend of starting well and finishing slowly. Specifically, he has taken heat for the offense's performance the most. Clearly, injuries have played a key role in the decline. But so has the QB play, and neither of the two men Shanahan picked to lead this team, Rex Grossman and John Beck, has given much indication that he deserves to be the starter in 2012. Also, the question of whether Kyle Shanahan, his son, deserves to be the play-caller also has been raised. Those are two issues Shanahan must face up to.
