When RB Jamaal Charles went down with a torn ACL in Week Two, the assumption was that second-year player Dexter McCluster would convert from wide receiver to running back and be the featured player in the Chiefs' run game. That hasn't happened for a variety of reasons, but one of them has been McCluster's difficulty in holding on to the football. He has three fumbles lost this season, tied for the most of any non-quarterback in the league, despite having only 84 touches (on rushes, receptions and kickoff and punt returns).
McCluster has said that he knows for a fact that he doesn't have a fumbling problem, but rather issues in the last few moments of a tackle while he's going to the ground. Yet, we hear the turnover concern is one of the primary reasons that Jackie Battle has become the Chiefs' primary running back, while CB Javier Arenas was the "Wildcat" QB who ran for a Week Seven TD instead of McCluster.
