Vikings must assess potential lineup changes

The bye week has been spent looking at internal improvement and how the Vikings can achieve it. They have had to shuffle a bit with injuries and ineffectiveness, and in some cases the backups have performed better than the starters. QB Christian Ponder most certainly has been one; WR Devin Aromashodu, to a lesser extent, has been another. And with so many potential free agents and high-salary players who might not be on the team in 2012, the Vikings must find some in-house solutions while trying to maintain some level of competitiveness. Completely emptying the bench will do little good, and it would hurt the development of young players such as Ponder. But it stands to reason that players such as CB Cedric Griffin, who has struggled badly, and ORG Anthony Herrera, who is battling injuries, could head to the bench in favor of former starting CB Antoine Winfield, who was injured and replaced by Asher Allen and now might regain a starting spot at Griffin's expense, and OG Joe Berger, who has held up well in brief relief appearances.
