In Week Eight, the Texans lost their fourth defensive player in the past four weeks, reserve ILB Darryl Sharpton. Sharpton, one of Houston's more underrated players and the second of the team's top five linebackers to suffer a season-ending injury, tore his quadriceps. He played a key role for the Texans in the first half of the season, spelling starter DeMeco Ryans. Although Ryans maintains he is 100 percent healthy after offseason Achilles surgery and an elbow injury sustained during the preseason, Houston was replacing Ryans with Sharpton roughly every third series. The loss of Sharpton likely means Ryans will resume the heavier workload he had taken on in years past, which he said he is ready for. "I've been ready to go," said Ryans. "It's been Coach's decision to rotate us, so I've been ready to go." Houston's LB depth is depleted, with sixth-year veteran Tim Dobbins now backing up Ryans.
