It's difficult not to cast a disparaging eye toward a Seattle offensive line that entered Week Nine giving up at least four sacks in every game but one. "The injuries to (starting OLG Robert) Gallery and (starting C Max) Unger have not helped, but the biggest problem has been the inconsistency that comes with so much youth," one daily team observer said. Nobody has been more inconsistent than starting rookie ORT James Carpenter. "After starting to play really well, he went back to having real problems the last couple of weeks," the observer said of Carpenter. "He needs to reach some level ground." To a lesser extent, the same goes for 2010 first-round pick Russell Okung at the all-important OLT position. "There are still growing pains going on with him," the observer said. "He'll whiff on one play and be dominant the next." We hear the line's large number of false starts (18) has been particularly annoying.
