The Saints have placed OT Charles Brown on injured reserve and signed OT Ray Willis to replace Brown on the active roster.

Brown injured his hip, which will require season-ending surgery, in Sunday's loss to the Rams. Zach Strief, whose injury caused him to miss the previous five games, will be healthy and ready to play Sunday against the Bucs, according to head coach Sean Payton. Brown was starting because Strief was sidelined.

The way we see it

The initial plan for Brown was to let him sit and learn this season, as the Saints like to do with young linemen. However, because of the release of Jon Stinchcomb and injury to Strief, Brown was forced into action.

Brown is a developing player and had his up and downs during his short starting stint. He wasn't able to cement his place as the long-term solution, but with his athleticism, he showed the potential that he could be a solid player in the future.
