Falcons head coach Mike Smith announced that starting OLT Sam Baker will be out for another 3-4 weeks with the back injury that sidelined him for Atlanta's 23-16 win at Detroit in Week Seven.

Baker, who has started 41-of-44 career games since being selected by the team in the first round of the 2008 draft, has had back issues previously. He had surgery to repair a herniated disk as a rookie.

Will Svitek, a sixth-year veteran, is expected to get the start against Indianapolis on Sunday.

The way we see it

Svitek started for Baker against the Lions in Week Seven, and the Falcons were happy with his performance. Baker has struggled in pass protection this season, but the Falcons stuck with him, even though they may have been tempted to demote him. Svitek has an opportunity to prove he's a better option at the position.
