It generally has been asserted that Rex Grossman was offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's choice at quarterback to start the season while head coach Mike Shanahan preferred John Beck. Although it's not as black and white as that, we hear, it appears that father Mike has made the call to go with Beck permanently for the rest of the season. Although Kyle has said that the play-calling won't change drastically with Beck in the lineup, he did offer some wrinkles with a few bootlegs in Beck's relief appearance against the Eagles in Week Six that might be a sign of more to come in future games. This was not a power play, mind you; our sources indicate that Mike wanted to give Grossman a shot to perform, considering he outplayed Beck in the preseason and that he was Kyle's preferred starter. But the way we understand the arrangement, Mike reserved the right to make a change when he saw fit — and this was the time.
