Fitzpatrick's current contract expires at the end of the season and he is earning a base salary of $3.195 million. His extension will earn him about $10 million per season, according to Jason La Canfora.

Chris Mortensen reported that the goal is to have a new deal before the Bills' next game in Week Eight against the Redskins. The Bills have a bye this weekend.

Fitzpatrick has been considered the team's top priority since he got off to a hot start earlier this season, helping lead the Bills to a 4-2 record. When Fitzpatrick is locked up, the team can focus on WR Stevie Johnson, who also has a contract expiring at the end of the season, and RB Fred Jackson, who wants an extension.
