Patriots DE Andre Carter might have waited until Week Six's win over the Cowboys to make a splash on the stat sheet, but he has been very effective in his first season with New England. Carter racked up two sacks of Tony Romo, helping spark a dormant pass rush, but the way we hear it, it's his run defense that has impressed the team the most.
Carter has been setting the edge well, setting up tackles for short gains by the Patriots' linebackers. Pro Football Focus has Carter ranked second among 4-3 defensive ends when it comes to run defense.
"I think he's performed well pretty much since the first training-camp practice," Bill Belichick told reporters this week about Carter. "He's a very consistent, high-effort player. Strong, experienced, knows what he's doing, very professional."
Carter also had his role elevated of late by playing in the team's sub package. According to ESPN Boston, he was in on 68-of-74 snaps against the Cowboys. He brought consistency to a DE position that was a revolving door for the Patriots last season because of injuries.
