Browns head coach Pat Shurmur told reporters Monday that the club isn't shopping RB Peyton Hillis, who suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's loss at Oakland.

According to multiple media outlets, Shurmur confirmed that Hillis, who carried just six times for 14 yards on Sunday, suffered a hamstring injury in the first half. Hillis played briefly in the second half but didn't carry or catch the ball.

Hillis had an MRI on his hamstring injury on Monday, Shurmur said. His status for Sunday's game vs. Seattle is unclear.

The way we see it

Hillis is in the midst of a disappointing 2010 season, gaining just 211 yards on 60 carries in four games. Hills' campaign has gone downhill since he sat out the Week Three game vs. Miami with strep throat. The incident became a controversy spanning multiple weeks after Hillis confirmed that his agent, Kennard McGuire, advised him to sit out because he was sick. Hillis is in the final year of his contract, and his future with Cleveland has been a discussion topic for several weeks with both sides unable to reach agreement on a new contract.

It's not particularly surprising that the Browns aren't shopping Hillis in trade, given that the club lacks RB depth and his excellent production in 2010. Even if the Browns wanted to deal Hillis, the hamstring injury could complicate matters.
