Bears S Chris Harris, who was inactive for Sunday night's win over the Vikings, formally requested to be traded, his agent confirmed. Mike Wright of ESPN Chicago first reported the story.
Harris' agent, Albert Elias, tweeted that the Bears granted him permission to explore a trade for his client.
Harris was benched during the week, along with Brandon Meriweather, as the team started second-year S Major Wright and rookie S Chris Conte. Harris was on the team's inactive list on Sunday.
The Bears drafted Harris in 2005 and traded him to the Panthers in 2007. Carolina traded him back in April of 2010.
Last season, Harris started all 16 games and recorded five interceptions. He has five tackles in two starts this season.
