It's notable that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said second-year RB Jonathan Dwyer's 76-yard burst vs. Tennessee in Week Five wasn't particularly a "surprise." What Tomlin did particularly like were other aspects of the 5-11, 229-pound Dwyer's performance. Said Tomlin: "He made two tackles on kick coverage units. He did a nice job there. He is growing in all areas, and that is what is going to be required for him to continue to move forward and retain his helmet as some of those guys who are injured get healthy." The fourth back on the depth chart, the 22-year-old Dwyer was inactive for the first four games before injuries to Mewelde Moore (ankle) and Rashard Mendenhall (hamstring) gave him a chance to play." With three more-proven backs ahead of him on the depth chart, Dwyer will have to earn a spot on the active roster, let alone carries, on a weekly basis. Nevertheless, his skill as a runner is apparent.
