Cam Newton's career is off to a remarkable start, but the Panthers are still working through the process of learning how to feature a player with rare talent. One area where he has thrived early this season is as a rusher at the goal line. Newton leads all quarterbacks in rushing attempts with 40 and is tied for third in the league in rushing touchdowns with five, but the Panthers apparently want to see him running with the ball less frequently. Head coach Ron Rivera said this week that the Panthers would like to "whittle down" Newton's rushing attempts. It's expected that they will try to scale back Newton's rushes away from the goal line in an effort to keep him from being exposed to any more contact than he already is. Newton is getting better at sliding to finish off runs when he's not plunging into the endzone, but it's not in his nature to go down voluntarily.
