Falcons WR Julio Jones will not play against Sunday against the Panthers because of a hamstring injury, head coach Mike Smith said Wednesday.
Jones has 25 receptions and leads the team in receiving yards with 358. He has yet to score his first NFL touchdown.
The rookie first-round pick hurt the hamstring early in Sunday night's loss to the Packers.
Slot WR Harry Douglas will step into the starting lineup in place of Jones. Douglas has 11 catches for 80 yards this season.
The way we see it
This is a big loss for a Falcons offense that has struggled with consistency all season.
Jones had just begun to find a rhythm in this offense, bringing the explosive plays the team expected when it traded up to draft him. Roddy White has struggled with drops this season, but he will need to step up and find his 2010 Pro Bowl form if Jones is out an extended period of time.
