The Browns have placed DE Marcus Benard, injured in a motorcycle accident Monday, on the reserve/non-football injury list, the club said Wednesday. Benard suffered a broken hand in the accident.

To replace Benard, the Browns signed DE Auston English from the practice squad. English, 24, led the NFL with four sacks in the preseason.

The Browns signed rookie DE Kiante Tripp to replace English on the practice squad. The 24-year-old Tripp, an undrafted free agent from Georgia whom the Falcons waived in September, had a tryout with Cleveland on Oct. 4.

The way we see it

The loss of Benard, who led the Browns in sacks a season ago, hurts the Browns' DE depth. The Browns' end play has been solid this season. For English, this could be an opportunity to show he can contribute in regular-season games after a productive preseason.
