The 49ers placed WR Josh Morgan on season-ending injured reserve after he suffered a lower leg injury late in Sunday's 48-3 win over the Buccaneers. To replace him on the roster, the team signed WR Brett Swain to a one-year deal.

Morgan has 15 catches for 220 yards and one touchdown this season.

Swain spent last season with the Packers, recording six receptions for 72 yards in limited duty on offense. He was a standout on special-teams coverage.

The way we see it

Losing Morgan for the season is tough, but he isn't irreplaceable. While he was second on the team in receptions and yards, most of that production has come while Braylon Edwards and Michael Crabtree have been dealing with injuries.

With Edwards expected back soon and Crabtree rounding into shape, the 49ers should be able to withstand the loss of Morgan, especially with TE Vernon Davis playing at a high level.
