The Patriots brought back TE Dan Gronkowski, Rob's brother, to the 53-man roster.

Gronkowski takes the roster spot that was opened when the team cut OT Thomas Welch on Monday.

Gronkowski was released on Sept. 23 after playing in the Patriots' first two games. He played in 12 games with four starts for the Broncos last season.

The way we see it

Gronkowski reportedly was dinged up when he was cut, as the team needed to use his roster spot to fill other needs. The Patriots had been using Welch as an extra blocker, a role that Gronkowski will now fill as the team's third tight end.
