Here are the Patriots' offensive, defensive and special-teams players of the week from their Week Five win over the Jets.
Offense: RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
It took a couple weeks for "The Law Firm" and the ground game to get going, but Green-Ellis had a huge game against the Jets' defense, rushing for a career-high 136 yards. He scored two touchdowns on the ground and added a catch for 13 yards. The offensive line and TE Rob Gronkowski deserve a lot of credit for opening holes for Green-Ellis, who rushed for 59 yards on the team's final drive that iced the game.
Defense: ILB Gary Guyton
Jerod Mayo's replacement had a fine game in a big spot, tying Patrick Chung for the team lead with nine tackles. Guyton helped the team's run defense keep the Jets to less than 100 yards rushing and he was also key in helping cover the backs in the flat. The Jets had punished the Patriots in that aspect of the divisional-playoff game the Jets won last season, but LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene combined for only three catches for 11 yards. Guyton stuffed John Conner for no gain on one play and assisted Andre Carter on a tackle of Greene for no gain.
Special teams: P Zoltan Mesko
Mesko had to punt more than usual this week and had his highest punting average of the season (51.3 yards). He dropped one punt inside the 20 and had a net of 41.3 yards. Also worth mentioning is Tracy White, who had two special-teams tackles.
