The Patriots cut OT Thomas Welch on Monday. Welch was used as an extra blocker in the team's last two games.

Welch, a seventh-round pick by New England in 2010, has bounced between the active roster and practice squad this season. He saw significant playing time in the team's win over the Raiders as an extra blocker. Against the Jets on Sunday, Welch gave up a sack to Jamaal Westerman.

Welch spent most of last season on the Vikings' practice squad. He has eligibility to return to the Patriots' practice squad.
