PFW associate editor Dan Parr makes his prediction for the outcome of Monday night's game between the Bears and Lions.
For the Bears to pull off an upset, they're going to need to avoid falling behind early. Chicago's offense does not function well when it's trying to catch up. Mike Martz starts to get pass-happy in those situations and the offensive line is not going hold up well if Detroit's formidable defensive linemen get a chance to pin their ears back and get after QB Jay Cutler.
If the Bears can withstand what is sure to be a fiery, emotional first couple shots from Detroit, the pendulum could swing the other way. The Bears' cover-2 defense will limit WR Calvin Johnson — his string of two-touchdown games will end. It will provide a big test for QB Matthew Stafford, but he'll stay cool and connect with other targets to keep a less explosive, but efficient, Lions offense on the move.
Cutler will make more mistakes than Stafford, and the Bears' pass rush will be quieted once again.
Prediction: Lions 27, Bears 20
