More wrong than Wright for Bears at safety

The Bears' safety corps has been shorthanded over the past three games with starter Chris Harris sidelined by a nagging hamstring injury. Harris is expected to return soon — he was limited in practice Thursday — but it's not yet clear if he'll play Monday night vs. the Lions. Brandon Meriweather and Major Wright will be the starting safeties for the second consecutive game if Harris can't go. Harris' situation is a concern, but the bigger issue is that there are no clear long-term solutions at safety for the Bears. While Harris and Meriweather will be free agents after the season, the Bears are hoping Wright, a third-round pick in 2010, will be a staple on defense for years to come. The Bears anointed Wright their starter at free safety after Danieal Manning departed in free agency, but Wright is struggling and it appears he will be the safety facing a demotion when Harris is ready to play.
