For Giants' Cruz, concentration is key

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride maintained that there is not a changing of the guard, that Victor Cruz has not overtaken Mario Manningham as the starting flanker opposite Hakeem Nicks. But Cruz has impressed as Manningham appears to have regressed, and the Giants are still working to find the right combinations to use both of them best. Cruz still has his moments of inexperience (nearly fumbling in a controversial play late in the Week Four win over the Cardinals), and he also has shown a bit of a bad habit of taking his eye off passes just as they arrive, leading to some concentration drops. But otherwise, Gilbride remarked that Cruz has shown "slow, steady improvement" and has done everything the Giants have asked of him. If he can continue to progress and clean up some of the little things, as well as learning the slot position, where he has lined up at times when the top three receivers are on the field, Cruz will end up a crucial member of this unit by season's end.
