The Falcons made DE Ray Edwards their signature free-agent addition this offseason with the expectation that he would boost the pass rush playing opposite Pro Bowl DE John Abraham. Atlanta has only five sacks, however, through four games. Only the Bills have fewer. Edwards has been a solid run defender, he has recovered a fumble, made a tackle for loss and registered a couple QB hits, but still has not recorded a sack. The lack of early-season production isn't a surprise given his track record. Edwards has never made more than two sacks in the first seven games of a season. In his last two seasons — the most productive of his career — Edwards had only 1½ sacks in the first seven games each year. The vast majority of his production (eight sacks total in 2010, 8½ in '09) came in the second half of the season. The Falcons are hoping a similar surge is in the works for Edwards in 2011.
