Bears SS Brandon Meriweather was fined $20,000 on Thursday for a helmet-to-helmet hit he made in last Sunday's game against Panthers WR Steve Smith.

Meriweather lay out to tackle Smith in the third quarter of their Week Four matchup, leading with the crown of his helmet. The receiver was not brought down by the hit and had a 22-yard gain on the play. No flag was thrown for the hit.

This is not the first time Merriweather has been flagged for an illegal hit. Last season, while with the Patriots, he was fined $50,000 for two helmet-to-helmet hits on Ravens TE Todd Heap.
