After a shaky start, we're told first-round rookie OT James Carpenter is really starting to display the tools necessary to play at the pro level. "When they moved him to left guard to replace (injured Robert) Gallery, it didn't work out real well," said one daily team observer of Carpenter. "But they moved him back to right tackle, and he has gotten better every game. Not only has he been blocking his guy, he's also starting to get to the second level with his blocks. He did a real good job with (Falcons star DE) John Abraham in the Atlanta game. He has worked really hard, losing about 25 pounds since coming to camp. He is feeling better, looking better and playing better." Team sources believe fellow rookie John Moffitt is also making steady strides as the starting right guard. "He's a real scrapper," the observer said of the team's third-round pick. "He's like a clone of (former Seahawks OG) Chris Gray."
