According to multiple reports, Patriots ILB Jerod Mayo suffered an injury to his left MCL in Sunday's win over the Raiders and will be out an extended period of time.
PFW correspondent and Boston Herald writer Ian Rapoport is reporting that Mayo could be out six weeks. The injury is not expected to be season-ending.
Mayo, the league's leading tackler last season, had three tackles before exiting Sunday's game. Gary Guyton replaced him.
The way we see it
This will be a huge loss for the Patriots, as Mayo could be the most irreplaceable on the defensive unit. He is very good against the run and can cover receivers in the flat. He is the leader of the defense. While Guyton is a veteran, he is a downgrade, and the defensive unit already has multiple contributors injured, including CBs Leigh Bodden and Ras-I Dowling and DT Albert Haynesworth.
