The Patriots activated OL Thomas Welch to the 53-man roster and released S Ross Ventrone on Saturday.

Welch, a seventh-round pick in 2010, was on the roster for the team's season opener and rejoined the practice squad on Sept. 15.

Ventrone made his NFL debut against the Bills in Week Three after being signed from the practice squad.

The way we see it

Welch is another body for an offensive line that will be without ORT Sebastian Vollmer. With SS Patrick Chung returning, Ventrone is not needed in the secondary.
