The Browns' transition from the 3-4 to a 4-3 scheme has been a successful one to date. One evaluator who has seen Cleveland said the Browns' personnel suits new coordinator Dick Jauron's defense well. This shouldn't be overlooked in the defense's solid start. The Browns have been stout up the middle, with DTs Ahtyba Rubin and Phil Taylor (34 combined tackles) forming a strong tandem. Taylor (335 pounds) and Rubin (330 pounds) are often bigger than the interior O-linemen they are facing, the evaluator said, noting that trying to move Rubin and Taylor for an entire game poses a challenge for their opponents. MLB D'Qwell Jackson, the AFC's Defensive Player of the Month for September, is also a strong fit in Jauron's scheme, with Scott Fujita and Chris Gocong — who had previous NFL experience in 4-3 defenses — the type of outside linebackers Jauron prefers in his defense, we're told.
