Curtis Painter will make his first career start on Monday night when the Colts take on the Buccaneers, Indianapolis head coach Jim Caldwell said on Friday. Painter is filling in for Kerry Collins, who is out with a concussion, and Peyton Manning, who is still recovering from offseason neck surgery.

Painter, in his third season in the league, has played in only four career games. That includes the Colts' Week Three game vs. the Steelers, where he came off the bench in relief of Collins after the starter was hurt. Painter completed 5-of-11 passes for 60 yards, but lost a fumble in the fourth quarter that was returned for a touchdown by Pittsburgh, helping the Steelers escape with a win.

Collins still hasn't fully recovered from the hard hits he took in the game last Sunday and will be inactive for the Week Four Monday-night tilt in Tampa. Manning isn't expected back in the lineup for a few months.

Earlier in the week, the Colts signed QB Dan Orlovsky as an emergency backup for Painter.
