PFW executive editor and resident Packers expert Dan Arkush presents the fourth of five key matchups this week in advance of the Packers' Week Four game against the Broncos at Lambeau Field Sunday.
Broncos safeties Brian Dawkins and Rahim Moore vs. Packers TE Jermichael Finley
After pretty much having his way with the Bears' safety corps last week in his first three-TD performance at any level, Finley could face a tougher challenge this Sunday going up against the Dawkins-Moore combo. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said that, as imposing as Finley was vs. the Bears, he still needed to "tighten up" mentally, and that is sound advice indeed, since Finley will be matched up against one of the craftiest safeties in the league in Dawkins.
A 16-year veteran who had his best days with the Eagles, Dawkins captains the Denver secondary and still packs a wallop. While he still offers excellent run support, though, he has clearly lost a lot of speed in the twilight of his career.
Moore, meanwhile, is just starting to learn the ropes as a rookie. The Broncos' second-round draft pick has natural ball skills and soft hands and is off to a decent start. But Moore has a lean CB-type frame and could be in danger of getting manhandled by the imposing Finley.
Figuring to be situated both inside and split out wide, Finley also will encounter a Denver CB corps that still could be missing star defender Champ Bailey (hamstring, check status).
