The Jets have been using more two- and three-tight end sets this season to help protect Mark Sanchez, but also to establish another receiving threat at the position like their rivals have in New England. That option was supposed to be second-year TE Jeff Cumberland. The 6-4, 260-pounder out of Illinois spent most of last season on the practice squad. He had two catches for 35 yards on five targets this season, and one daily observer said Cumberland had the potential to be the team's "secret weapon" that it wanted to get on the field along with TE Dustin Keller, who leads the team in targets, catches and receiving yards. But Cumberland suffered a torn right Achilles tendon in the team's Week Three game against the Raiders. With Cumberland on injured reserve, the Jets activated Josh Baker from the practice squad. Baker, a 6-3, 244-pound rookie, is the team's third tight end behind Matthew Mulligan, who is mainly used as a blocker. Rex Ryan didn't rule out getting another tight end at some point.
