Texans make RB change

The Texans have signed RB Chris Ogbonnaya from their practice squad and released former featured back Steve Slaton.

Ogbonnaya was Houston's leading rusher during the preseason and is seen as a better special-teams player than Slaton, who lost his kick-return job when the team signed Danieal Manning in the offseason. With Ben Tate running well and Arian Foster likely to return from injury soon, there aren't many carries available in the Texans offense for a third running back.

Slaton rushed for 1,282 in his rookie season of 2008, but a neck injury slowed his career down the next season and he has yet to come close to that production since.

The way we see it

Slaton has shown flashes of brilliance in his short NFL career and is likely will be picked up by another team, but injuries and consistency have been issues. Not being a factor on special teams likely was the reason he was let go by the Texans.
