With an offense as explosive as the Texans', it is easy to overlook the punter — particularly when he is an undrafted rookie out of Central Michigan. But strong-legged Brett Hartmann is making it difficult not to take notice. In Week Two, Hartmann boomed a franchise-record 69-yard punt. Not only is he ranked in the top third of the league in both average and net average, he pulls double duty as Houston's kickoff specialist, notching eight touchbacks in his first 12 kickoffs. The Texans are lucky to have Hartmann, as they released the rookie during the preseason, opting to go with veteran Brad Maynard. But the club quickly changed its mind after Maynard's poor showing in the fourth preseason game, re-signing Hartmann days before the season began. We hear the Texans' initial concerns, which included Hartmann's ability to perform under the bright lights, have started to fade after his impressive start to the 2011 campaign.
