Former Ravens OT Orlando "Zeus" Brown died Friday at the age of 40. The cause of his death is unknown.

"The Ravens sent their condolences to the family of Orlando Brown," the team announced. "The lovable giant, nicknamed 'Zeus,' will be sorely missed.

Brown was found in an apartment in downtown Baltimore. His family had not heard from him for a few days.

"I think everybody knows what he meant to this organization, to this team, to the Ravens," head coach John Harbaugh said. "We're forever grateful for what he did for the Ravens' organization and what he did for the present team. Who he is and who he's been, we can't express our sorrow enough on behalf of our team and our organization for his loss today."

Brown played for the Ravens from 1996-98 and again from 2003-05. He also spent three seasons with the Browns. The 6-7, 360-pounder started 119 games in his career.

During this past offseason, Brown voluntarily worked out with Ravens OT Ramon Harewood and former Raven Oniel Cousins.

He is most remembered for being struck in the eye by a penalty flag thrown in a 1999 game. He missed three seasons recovering from the injury. Brown retired in 2005.

"He was a beast on the field but a gentle giant off," Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs said. "It's unfortunate he had to leave us so young."
