Authorities searched the suburban Kentucky home of Bengals WR Jerome Simpson and found six pounds of marijuana. A package with 2½ pounds of marijuana was delivered to the home on Tuesday.

Simpson, Bengals OT Anthony Collins and a woman at the residence were questioned but not arrested. Simpson was excused from Thursday's practice.

"I've been appraised of the situation for a few days now and unfortunately Anthony's name got put into it for no reason," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said on SiriusXM NFL on Thursday. "It was at Jerome's house and it's an investigation that's going on. He's cooperating and doing what he can to help in the investigation."

Officers also found "packaging materials, scales and smoking devices" at the home, Michelle Gregory, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Justice, told the Cincinnati Enquirer.

According to CaliforniaWatch.org, state narcotics agents tracked the package to Simpson's home. Tommy LaNier, head of the National Marijuana Initiative, said the house "was set up as a potential distribution network" and that the packages came from the "Emerald Triangle," a pot-producing area of Northern California.

Simpson had four catches for 136 yards last week and is a starting receiver for the Bengals opposite rookie A.J. Green.
